VEISHEA No More?

Friday was a good day to have off. I first cleaned our front deck so that I could seal it on Saturday. Then went up to Ames to ride around on my bike with a good friend, "S" (Scott Heider). We rode around Welch Ave and then hit some trails. Got to see a bunch of college students lining up at the bars at 3:00 PM.

Saturday Kim and I went up to Ames to watch the VEISHEA parade and then walk around campus to see what's all changed. Toured through the new College of Business building and got some free cotton candy. Yum. Quite a nice building...too bad it wasn't there when I was attending ISU.

So, all in VEISHEA land was good and then came a long these punks that think they're adults. Well, these punks go and start a riot that created quite a mess and loss for Welch Ave. businesses and the city of Ames. Now comes the question if VEISHEA will continue. I find it disheartening that these little brats could cause something that's been going on for the past 80 years to not happen again. I look at VEISHEA as a time to get together with friends, see what's new on campus, ingest a few cherry pies, and in the future take my kids to see the parade and visit the activities setup on central campus. If VEISHEA ceased to exist you wouldn't get to see and hear the Groove. The list goes on as to what you'd miss. Something needs to be done, but I hope it's not the killing of VEISHEA.

veishea used to be a student-run celebration...ever since the administration stepped in and tried to control what happened at veishea, i could really care less about what happens to it...riot i say

Ya, blame us students back in 1988 for all of this. Nice.

I remember sleeping through the VEISHEA parade 3 of the 4 years I was at ISU. The year I did go, I practically fell asleep while there! VEISHEA is coordinated by a faculty and group that are increasingly out of touch with the interests of actual students. There might be a way to get students and alumni together, but I bet you it's not the marching band.

hehe, stupid administration, leave it to them to take the fun out of celebration. i think that if i were there, i probably would have joined in. but i am sort of a punk, i guess...

also, i'm pretty sure the punks that think they're adults, are adults... and more than likely they'll face the same punishment that an adult would.

and mike... i didn't go to one parade at cornell, so i'm with you there. although i did get really really pissed at one because it circled about 10 square blocks. i was trapped inside trying to get to an appointment outside of said blocks. needless to say, i was late and missed my appointment. stupid stupid parades.

Also, note that veishea is student planned, but not by the most in-touch group of students. The student/faculty group tried to get Sublime for the concert one year, because they'd heard the group was popular. What they failed to notice was that the lead singer had died.

they also booked the goo goo dolls about three years in a row...and what they failed to notice is that nobody under the age of 35 likes adult contemporary music...
